Mental Health: Between Discourse and Reality, Dir. André Vanasse, image of a middle aged man in a plaid blue shirt.

This work follows the revolving door syndrome occurring in the Quebec public mental health system, where patients often end up repeatedly admitted back into hospital due to lack of public infrastructure to support them post-release. The film addresses uncontrolled deinstitutionalization in Quebec, leaving more and more people without resources. At the root of this, it raises questions of how the community can support former psychiatric patients and support groups, in order to help them find their place in the world, as opposed to locking up those who “fall through the cracks”.
