Marie-Claude Larouche

Canada

Marie-Claude Larouche has been an associate professor in the Department of Educational Sciences at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) since 2025. In her younger years, thanks to her work as a ticket clerk for screenings at the Cinémathèque québécoise, she had the opportunity to watch over a thousand films from different countries, eras and styles. Joris Ivens’ documentary ‘Terre d’Espagne’ (1937) is a source of inspiration for her video.

Originally trained in anthropology, sociology and communication, the making of this documentary in Nicaragua (1986) and its screening for future international aid workers led her to seek out venues where she could bring socio-political, educational and cultural concerns to life in Quebec. Holding a Master’s degree in Communication (UQAM, 1993), she became interested in the museum-education link driven by the development of telematic networks (before the advent of the Internet!) and obtained a PhD in Educational Sciences (Paris V – René Descartes, 1999) on the evaluation of educational programmes in historic sites. She subsequently worked on the development of digital museum resources of educational interest at the McCord Museum from 2000 to 2010.
