Marion Lessard
Marion Lessard is a collective of five people, comprising Claude Romain, Élisabeth M. Larouine, Jean-Nicolas Léonard, Alice Roussel and Marie Cherbat-Schiller, whose practice in film, literature, performance, drawing and public communications revolves around equivocation, ambivalence, and the principle of identity. This unusual structure, both individual and collective, acts as a mirror reflecting the philosophical paradoxes of the One and the Many. By playing with the notions of individuality, originality and identity that inform them, the members of the Collective are revealing and reveling in the linguistic, socio-political, psychological and logical structures that govern our Western societies. Some members studied philosophy at the University of Montreal, while Marion Lessard as a whole holds a master's degree in Studio Arts from Concordia University. The Collective has shown their work in artistic events such as MOMENTA Biennale de l’Image (2023), OFFTA Live Arts Festival (2021) and Triennale Banlieue (2018). Since 2017, they have exhibited in various galleries and artist centers including Fonderie Darling, where they were in a long-term residency as part of the Montreal Studios (2019-2023), Galerie B-312, Dazibao, Verticale, as well as the Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery at Concordia University.
