A report on the Marie Quatre Poches daycare in Ste-Thérèse, relating its history and function, and its role as an example of a “popular” daycare. Mothers, administrators, educators and children all tell their stories. The parents’ involvement is encouraged through committees that allow democratic control over the daycare’s orientation. The educators, who receive minimum wage, talk about their work and motivation. This daycare, although open to everyone, welcomes mainly working class children, and parents pay according to their means. Through examples of Commonwhealth Plywood strikers’ children, the video shows the neccessity of having daycare services in a working environment and eventually the claimming of housing rights and a universal network of free daycare services.
